Hi people!

A new version of my 3D AnonIB (anonymous imageboard) is online!

  • The UI has been improved.
  • You can now reply to other post.
  • You can navigate/share chan using just the URL.
  • The map is currently the same for each level. But don’t worry, there will be some variants
  • I reactivated the communication between players.
  • My future development will be about graphic, design and stories. I really like the idea of NPC showing you the way to some secret levels.

Snuffchan’s Dungeon: May Update

Hi,

I will make a quick point on the progress of Snuffchan’s Dungeon. You will notice than we are back from Radichan to Snuffchan. I finally decided to go back to my infamous domain name, it’s part of my ID even if it’s scare’s some people. Just a note about this: the name Snuffchan come from my insatiable appetite for Horror movie, gore manga, black metal, and some time guro hentaï. My first french imageboard was named Je Flippe, that can be translated I am scared in english. So the branding Snuffchan is pretty close to the universe I like to portrait. And don’t worry, you won’t found any real snuff picture, only fully legal thing you would have found at your local video club.

To go back to the Dungeon, I put online a new version last monday. Here are the new features:

Better Drawing interface

First of all, you can now undo each stroke, because, being forced to clear the whole drawing after a small drawing error was such a pain. Notice also than the interface was improved to fully fit on a desktop page.

New interface

There a new interface, preparing the next step: player death and item collection. There’s already sponges (the cardboard boxes on the ground) that can allow you to delete post. Item collection + player death are 2 tricky part especially regarding the 3D view performance (they were active few weeks ago), so these features is not for tomorrow, but are without a doubt on my roadmap. I also tested Player ID display but this also caused some performance issues.

Drawing on existing pictures

I reactivated drawing on existing pictures, a cool feature in my view. You can now only draw one drawing over a picture, to avoid spamming.

Reflexion on the future

Snuffchan’s Dungeon is a crazy project. Just try formulate what is the Dungeon: a 3D imageboard, multiplayer, running on webpage AND mobile phone. That took me an indecent amount of time, just to have something decent and not too buggy.

What I try to do, it’s than the next steps of my project, my vision, won’t be possible without a form of remuneration. I added a donation page and advertisement. Also I need to be honest, even in case the Dungeon earn some money, I got absolutely zero guarantee than I will continue the Dungeon’s dev. I got lot of stuffs going on in my life and this kind of side project won’t be a priority for at least a year.

However, if the project was abandoned by myself, I would release the source online, to be sure other people will continue the adventure.

Hi,

I am interested in the concept of crypto-anarchy for few years now (I bought Come and Get it of Cody Wilson, hope his doing well) so I am really happy to see this kind of subreddits.

Being a french designer, I am more and more concern about the state of freedom of speech and caricature in my country, which is strange thing considering it’s the country of Charlie Hebdo. I don’t even talk about the almost divine power left to few multi billion dollar company like FB or Twitter that can wipeout someone from the Internet.

To help my people and the people around the world I decided to come with a new concept, a 3D imageboard, where the game elements is used like an abstraction layer, enabling secret that can only be reach Hardcore users. Notice that this concept works in browser page, AND, future cool stuff, will use in the future the ability to decentralize a part of the game content, via the Webtorrent javascript lib. Ho, and of course, all players are anonymous, using a system of token.

Ultra Shooter Yuka #5 : Gear VR and Stuff

Got a new job and I jumped on the occasion to get the Gear VR headset, and my god, this stuff is just so cool. I think I will stop the dev on Google Cardboard, it’s good start for the VR, but’s it’s definitively cheap with very limited field of view. Another advantage to dev for the Gear VR is the code and ergonomics being quite similar for a desktop version. I will try to publish a version on SideLoadVR, the alternative Gear VR market.

My late experiments (on Google Cardboard) were about making a rogue like, infinite, random generating map. Here is the app link: http://snuffchan.com/novr/UltraShooterYuka1.apk

!! It’s an experimental test version, with many bugs, including important framerate drop after a long game and error during the generation of the first room!!

I’ve shown it at the Café VR #3, in Paris, thanks to Frédéric Gourdet the organizer of the event.

Shooter auf Des : Dev Log 5 (not so dead finally)

Hi! Good news, my Google Cardboard /Virtual reality project is not so dead, I am still working on it and I’ve published a new version with real 3D decors, and using having a gamepad tweaking feature to enable the player rotation with the gamepad. I am not very active these days, especially because I am actively seeking a job. Anyway I keep moving forward in my game, making artworks and also playing others oldschool shooters, like In the Hunt, Elevator Action, PSone Doom or Gun Combat 2.

I am trying to the explore the Gear VR API, the Google cardboard being a bite too limited for a action/exploration game.

I think my next move will be to reinsert the rogue-like gameplay with a random map generation.

Shooter auf Des : Stopping Dev (Log 4)

Hi! I am making this post to notify the stop of development of my VR shooting game, in his 3D VR form at least. Here are the numerous raison:
  1. Making character sprites  took  the triple of time, which is very frustrating when you make for the third time the same animation instead of making a new cool and well done animation.
  2. The google cardboard SDK isn’t very powerful, especially on non-Samsung phone, making it hard to reach a graphical quality (dynamic lighting, particules effect) goal without an important framerate loss.
  3. Using Sprite renders on characters in a 3D space isn’t as easy it’s looks on Unity 5, coming with some Z-fighting and shaders issues.
  4. Android Playstore and Samsung Oculus Store are too restricted to allowing me a true artistic freedom.
  5. I should really focus on a more on a smaller narrative project.
So I don’t know I will restart my 2D project (with the 2 players support) or start a brand new project 3D VR project, like a small kidnapping simulation.
The idea of stopping my dev came from this animation, from Mercenary King, when I was making for the third time a walking animation for my DEV GRU Skeleton, and understanding I will never have the time to make a proper idle animation for my characters

My Google Cardboard FPS is out now! (Log III)

TFW NO VR, Log II : Gamepad Support! [UPDATE]

[UPDATED] –> the new test .APK is now faster and proper to a maximum, fun, VR experience!
>TFW NO VR is a GoogleCarboard game , mixing FPS and Rogue like.

 

Made a new version only supporting the gamepad. One button is used to fire, the other to change the weapon. There’s a bug and the button of weapon change should stay pushed till the weapon change. Remember than this game is an alpha and the graphical assets aren’t definitive.

 

Improvements:
-gamepad support
-creation of basic rooms
-explosion for the grenade enemies
-weapon changement
-take care of the range of each weapon
-items for health and weapon
-sounds for the weapon

 

Known bugs:
-restart of the game after the death isn’t proper
-issue with grenade collision
-issue with the button to change the weapon

 

Next steps:
ENEMIES AI !!!!
-minimap
-start graphic research
-interface notification when you’re hurt or you hurt an enemy

TFW NO VR, my google cardboard game!

Hi! Long time since I didn’t post a thing on the Snuffchan blog! I received my Google Cardboard headset, started to experiment it, and eventualy come with my very own google cardboard game, a hybrid between Rogue and Doom.

I am still working the gameplay, having tons neat ideas, like adding a shield appearing when you tilt the head, my biggest challenge being to produce a gameplay which use only head motion tracking. And actually, in my demo, it’s works!
This project is WIP, and I started a todo list of what I want in the prod version. The code name of this project is >TFW NO VR 3D.

THE GRAPHISM and CHARATERS ARE JUST HERE TO TEST THE GAMEPLAY. I’ve just some hint of ideas for the universe, and there will be probably very few story. I want the univers share the same goryness than Doom with also some Rogue RPG element, like fortress, inns, secret places on the map, the whole stuff with guns and cybernetic elements.

My next steps

  • a mini map (the actual map is generated randomly so it’s a critical element of gameplay)
  • a shield triggered when you tilt the head
  • creating rooms
  • creating a GameOver screen and a Winning screen.
  • weapons change
  • med-packs

The way it’s work: point the red cube to walk, point the grenades or the girls to shoot them. Don’t forget it’s a pre-alpha version for curious people, with major bug!
